About the HIPC

What is the HIPC?

The Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council (HIPC) brings together leaders from many sectors of the Hamilton community, including the immigrant service provider sector, businesses, unions, community-based organizations, health, local government, media, educational institutions and youth.

What is the purpose of the HIPC?

The task of the HIPC is to provide a leadership forum through collaboration with local partners.  It will implement a multi-faceted Immigration Strategy for Hamilton that reflects the views of all of Hamilton's communities.

This made-in-Hamilton Immigration Strategy will support the attraction, settlement, retention and economic participation of immigrants as well as create a welcoming community for newcomers.

How did the HIPC come into being?

Many discussions over a number of years have taken place among various communities in Hamilton who recognize the importance of immigration.  As a result of the call from the community, the City of Hamilton took the lead in developing the formation of the HIPC.

In July of 2009, Hamilton received support through funding from the federal government, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), to proceed with their work toward the development and implementation of an Immigration Strategy.

What is the HIPC's vision?

Hamilton is an inclusive community where the talents and experience that immigrants and refugees bring are valued because they are integral to making Hamilton the best place to raise a child.
